Mandia Jau/Tikhri (Odia: ମାଣ୍ଡିଆ ଜାଉ)

Mandia Jau/Tikhri (Odia: ମାଣ୍ଡିଆ ଜାଉ) is a nutritious and tasty Odia dish. People used to have this during the summer, but now since it's accessible year-round, you can have it every day.

According to one of my acquaintances, Seetaya, folks in western Odisha used to prepare Mandia Tikhri (the local term) during the summer as a heatwave remedy. Mandia Jau was consumed after a lunch sleep in the heat afternoon.

In Hindi, the millets Mandia are known as Raagi. It is taken in a variety of ways depending on the area for its health advantages.

Benifits of Mandia Jau:

Mandia Jau is a nutritious and healthful food. It's ideal for females and newborns. It aids in weight loss, sugar control, bone strength, cholesterol reduction, and is an excellent source of amino acids. Also, aids digestion promotes breastfeeding, slows skin aging, and so on.

Ingredients for Mandia Tikhri:

  1. Mandia – 100 grams
  2. Water – 2 glasses
  3. Sugar and Salt – as per your taste

The Making Process of Mandia Jau:

If you have the Raagi/Mandia flour, then mix it with water properly. Then add sugar and salt to it. Now put the mix on a pan and stir continuously. gradually, it would become thick, and when it becomes thick, stop the flame and keep it in the fridge to cold. It usually serves in cold or normal temperatures.

And if you have the Ragi seeds, then grind them with the mixer and add water to them. After mixing properly, extract the liquid part with the help of a Strainer. Now follow the process described in the previous paragraph.
