Chhena Idli (ଛେନା ଇଟିଲି) is a traditional and popular dish from the Indian state of Odisha. It is a sweet variation of the popular South Indian dish Idli, which is typically made with a fermented batter of rice and lentils. In Chhena Idli, the traditional Idli batter is replaced with a mixture of chhena (cottage cheese), semolina, sugar, and cardamom powder, which gives it a sweet and creamy texture.
The dish is said to have originated from the coastal region of Odisha and is a popular dessert item. It is often served during festivals and special occasions and is a great option for dessert.
To make Chhena Idli, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 cup chhena (cottage cheese)
- 1/2 cup semolina
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- Oil for greasing the idli plates
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chhena, semolina, sugar, and cardamom powder. Mix well.
- Grease the idli plates with oil.
- Pour the batter into the idli plates.
- Steam the idlis in a steamer or pressure cooker for 10-15 minutes or until they are cooked through.
- Once done, remove the idlis from the steamer and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Serve the Chhena Idlis warm or at room temperature, garnished with your choice of nuts or saffron.
