If you are looking for a simple yet flavorful fish curry recipe, you might want to try Machha-Aloo Besara (Odia: ମାଛ-ଆଳୁ ବେସର), a traditional dish from Odisha, India. Machha means fish, aloo means potato, and besara means mustard sauce.
This dish is made with rohi or rohu fish, which is marinated with turmeric, red chili powder, salt, and mustard sauce. Keep this paste for 30 minutes. Cut potatoes as per your choice. Chop onion and green chili (if you need it).
Now fry besara with hot oil and after some time, add the pieces of potatoes and sauté it. Later add some water and turmeric powder to it. After the boiling of water add fish, onion chops, and green chilli into that and keep the flame low. After half boil, add Ambula to it. Turn off the flame when the potatoes fully boiled. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve with white boiled rice.
Tips
- You can use any other fish of your choice instead of rohu.
- You can adjust the amount of mustard seeds and dry red chilies according to your taste preference.
- You can also add some chopped tomatoes or yogurt to the curry for a different flavor.
